LT-PNP knocks out crime

LA Trinidad, Benguet – The Philippine National Police of La Trinidad knocks out crimes at this first week of Sept. because there are no records yet of crimes committed. The month of Sept. is a national crime prevention month with a theme: “Pinoy Ako, Crime Prevention, Misyon Ko.” It has also a slogan which is “Knock Out Crime”.

There are different activities the LT-PNP are doing in commemoration with this month’s celebration. One of these is the weekly school and barangay visitations which includes information drive on crime prevention tips on drugs, internal security operation, bomb threats, illegal gambling, municipal ordinance on computer games, curfew to minors, liquor ban and fraternities. This activity is focusing on the primary and secondary students.

Another activity also is the blowing of whistles which connotes preventing of crime as explained by SPO2 Rogelio Limbawan, police non commission officer. It has a slogan of “Pito Tayo Laban sa Krimen”.

The office also is distributing information, education and communication materials on crime prevention to the residents of La Trinidad.

Seed inspectors of CAR inspected

LA Trinidad, Benguet – Seed inspectors from Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Ifugao and Mountain Province were also inspected and updated during the refresher training on inbred rice seed certification for seed inspectors of CAR held at the Agricultural Training Institute hall last Sept. 7 to 9.

This training was a collaborative effort of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit, Agricultural Training Institute of CAR and the Bureau of Plant Industry- National Seed Quality Control Services. There were 28 participants who attended the training.

“We are conducting this training to update the seed inspectors on the new facilities and to refresh them on their duties and responsibilities as seed inspectors. It is also a way for us to hear and answer issues concerning the seed inspectors as well as the seed growers in their provinces,” said Anecita Wongsuwan, chief of the BPI NSQCS.
The training aims to improve the services of the seed inspectors of CAR. It trained the inspectors on how to produce a high quality seeds which could yield to a high productivity of rice because the collaborative agencies are aiming for 10 to 15% increase in rice production of the region.

Furthermore, the training covered values orientation, updates on seed production, characterization of rice varieties, mechanics of seed certification, duties and responsibilities of the seed inspectors, policies and guidelines for seed growers, harvesting practices, seed sampling and seed testing methods and procedures.

The collaborative agencies were headed by Anecita Wongsuwan of BPI, Robert Cayanos and Arlene Flores of ATI and Marlyn Sta. Catalina of DA-RFU.

Puregold needs 152 employees to start with LT branch

LA Trinidad, Benguet – The Puregold Price Club Incorporation needs 152 employees to open the La Trinidad branch which will be on the first week of Nov.

The company is now conducting a five day job fair at La Trinidad gymnasium which was started last Monday and will end tomorrow. They need the following positions: 26 female cashiers; two female sales assistants and 18 for male; four female wholesale clerks; five female receiving clerks; two female encoders; four female treasury staffs; 15 female watchers; two for male/female inventory control staff, payables staff and general clerk for merchandising; eight male/female section supervisors; four male maintenance staff; 30 male baggers; 10 male janitors; two male for warehousemen, technical support staff and drivers; one male for butcher, audit staff, administrative staff and visual artist; and one female for documentation clerk, audit staff, administrative staff, bad order custodian, human resource supervisor, HR staff and general clerk for HR.

“Learn your own tongue before the others” – Espique

LA Trinidad, Benguet – Dr. Felina Espique, director of the education department of Saint Luis University told the students of Benguet State University to learn first their own language before adopting others’ languages. She further stated in her message that one who knows his/her own local language will also be an excellent speaker of other languages. So she encouraged the students to be proud of their native tongue as well as the wikang pambansa.

This message was expressed during the celebration of the buwan ng wika and literary-musical festival which was held at Benguet State University gymnasium last Tuesday.

“Ang Filipino ay Wikang Panlahat, Ilaw at Lakas sa Tuwid na Landas,” is the theme of the commemoration.

Furthermore, the activity contains different competitions which were participated by the students of BSU representing their respective colleges. The jazz chant competition was garnered by the College of Nursing while the dance drama was conquered by the College of Teacher Education. Story telling, balagtasan, instrumental duet and harana were dominated by the College of Arts and Sciences.

LT celebrates family week

LA Trinidad, Benguet – The municipality of La Trinidad celebrates the national family week which was started Tuesday until Sept. 30. “Hamon sa Pamilyang Pilipino: Kahirapan ay Tugunan, Pagkapantay-pantay ay Kamtan,” serves as the theme of the celebration.

“Family week is a week-long celebration designed to promote and strengthen the Filipino family as well as advocate related issues nationwide,” said Irene Tagtag, municipal social welfare officer.

The former president Fidel Ramos declared every last week of Sept. as the family week with proclamation number 60. It is intended to give focus on the importance of strengthening the family. It also aims to ensure nationwide participation and support.

In line with the celebration is the family congress which was held last Tuesday at La Trinidad Lednicky Hall. A total of 60 participants from the La Trinidad Solo Parents Association and from the PTCA of the pre-schools in the different public and private institutions attended the congress.

The varied speakers lectured about the importance of birth registration, RA 9262 or violence against women and their children act, municipal ordinances, and the family code.

“RA 9262 covers sexual harassment and physical, physiological and child abuses. It also covers lesbian and gay relationships, even married couples who are victims of these abuses,” explained Lilian Oliva, provincial prosecutor.

400 plus individuals join CSC’s Hataw

Around 400 plus individuals from different agencies participated in the Inter-Agency Fun Walk and Physical Wellness Exercise or Hataw held at Benguet State University yesterday. This activity was conducted by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in line with their 111th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary with the theme: “Championing R.A.C.E.: Public Service Excellence at Full Speed.”
Furthermore, the Philippine National Police (PNP-PRO-COR), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Provincial Office of Benguet, Municipality of La Trinidad, Department of Education (DepEd)-Benguet Division, Benguet General Hospital (BeGH), Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO), Benguet Fire Protection, Department of Land Reform, Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Agricultural Training Institute (ATI-CAR), La Trinidad Water District (LTWD), Municipality of Itogon, Benguet State University (BSU), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Municipality of Tuba, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Commission on Audit (COA) participated in the said event.
“We are doing this activity because we wanted to promote wellness to our government employees,” said Susan Wal, Senior Personnel Specialist of the CSC.
The PNP PRO-COR Band with SPO4 Ronaldo Golingab headed the Fun Walk while the Physical Wellness proper was guided by the Institute of Physical Education of BSU.
Meanwhile, within the program, the CSC recognized the Outstanding Public Officials and Employees or the Dangal ng Bayan Awardees like John M. ATI helps Abra AEW’s to make their proposals

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) of CAR is now conducting training on Project Proposal Preparation for Agricultural Extension Workers (AEW’s) of Abra. It is a five-days training which started last Monday and will end up this Friday.
The said training aims to build the skills of the technicians in doing project proposals in acquiring funds for their projects. It also aims to establish feasibility of the project proposals to successes.
“In order to come up with a good project proposal, you have to justify the problem. Provide high gravity on it. We should dig and dig to justify a reasonable fund that could be allotted to that certain project,” said Robert A. Cayanos, project specialist of ATI.
AEW’s will be tasked to make their own project proposals to be submitted in their respective municipalities and to the regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for proper funding. The project proposals will be on rice self sufficiency.
The technicians presented some of the problems of their communities that needs project proposals like the acquisition of water pump engine and farming tractors; construction of diversion dams and farm-to-market roads. // RUBYLOIDA B. BITOG
